THE GLORY OF GOD
Through the church, the manifold wisdom of God might be made known.
Eph 3:10
God’s church is to be a display of His glory as it preaches the gospel and lives a life changed by the gospel. Our aim is to magnify the name of Jesus Christ in our church, our locale, and in the world. God deserves all the glory and it is because of God’s free grace, given to sinners through the substitutionary death of His Son Jesus, we are saved. God has reconciled us to Himself. He has justified us. He has forgiven us. And all to the praise of His glorious grace.
GOSPEL-CENTERED
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
1 Cor 15:3
Ultimately, everything the church does should be centered on the gospel. After all, it is this gospel that is of “first importance” (1 Cor 15:1-3). First Baptist Church seeks to be a healthy church that is:
Grounded in the Gospel
There would be no church apart from Christ and His gospel. By faith in Christ and His cross-work, His church comes into being. We are a church that seeks to glorify God by remaining grounded in the gospel that gave us birth (James 1:18).
Growing in the Gospel
Some say the gospel is only for new believers. However, the gospel is not something to be moved away from, but to be pressed deeper into (Col 2:6). When this happens, the good news brings renewal and nourishment to all areas of life.
Sent with the Gospel
Jesus charges His church to hold out the gospel as it makes disciples, teaching people to obey all of Christ’s commands (Matt 28:18-20). The good news is the power to save, so Christ’s people are to herald the Savior.
